Lipstick Frustrations to Sensations - Day 5
Lipstick Frustration to Lipstick Sensation - Day 5 (With Jay Harper)
Back Away From The
Mirror Please, So You Can
See The Whole Picture.
Once you hear this, especially after you try it, you will slap your forehead and say
"Why didn't I think of that!?" It’s surprising the difference this little tactic makes. It’s one of those AH HA moments.
Here’s the thought. Whenever you intently put on lipstick, especially a new lipstick, you are likely doing it with your face very close to a mirror.
You hone in on your lips, scrutinizing every nook and cranny. You generally can only see your lips, so up close and personal. Like this.
It can be jarring, especially if you are trying a lipstick color for the first time. However, when you interact with real people, the opposite is true.
When you go out into the world and interact with people, no one is two inches from your lips. No one is staring them down. No one is scrutinizing them like you are.
If they are two inches form your lips, I doubt they care too much about the color of your lipstick at the moment :)
Normal interaction distance is 3 to 5 feet. This is the typical comfy, you’re not in my space, and I’m not in your space, speaking distance.
At this distance, it’s all about the overall look.
So it stands to reason, that you too, before freaking out and consider running for the hills screaming, should stand back from the mirror and take in the overall picture. It’s this "stepped back" image that everyone is going to interact with.
I always do this in person.. having a person look at themselves from 5 feet away… and THAT’s when it clicks…” ahhhhh… wait a second, this color really does look nice on me! ”
Everyone has preconceived notions of “what lipstick looks good” and “what lipstick looks bad”.
This is normal, and totally ok. But the danger is, you might think all pink lipsticks look bad, because you have seen a girl unsuccessfully wear a bright pink, at too high of an intensity, with the wrong outfit… and it’s easy to believe that “all bright pink lipsticks” makes a girl look — like that! Like the look you didn’t like.
But it’s untrue. And it’s up to you to experiment and discover the amazing possibilities that a couple of new lipsticks can offer… and it’s up to you… to step away from the mirror, please.
